La Jota Caviteña

(lah HOH-tuh cah-veeh-TEN-yah)
Dance influenced by Spain named after the province of Cavite, Central Luzon. This lively dance, an adaptation of the Castillian "Jota" shows the use of Filipino castanets made of bamboo, unstrung and held loosely--the idea of which was borrowed from the original Spanish Castanets. Yet this dance shows Filipino style and grace in both costume and movement that the people incorporated into their dance.
