IPCC Circus Act
The Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change (IPCC) is a high profile group assembled by the United Nations to build the case that the earth is warming dangerously, that it is caused by humans and that we need the UN to save us from calamity. It uses the work of many competent scientists to give the political document an aura of credibility. In order to get maximum exposure and scare effect, it released the results of the 2007 assessment in four parts over the course of the year.
The IPCC, and the political machine that is propelling it, want people to believe that the case is closed, that there is a total consensus, that global warming is having a major effect and that it is all due to human development.
The Panel has compiled an easy to view presentation that anyone can download or view online. It is worthwhile doing so to get an idea of the extent to which they are willing to distort science for a whopper of a story. The points they make are that 1) “concentrations of greenhouse gasses are unprecedented” 2) “CO2 increases are mainly due to fossil fuel burning” 3) “warming is unequivocal” 4) there are increases in northern hemisphere temperatures and “clear decreases in Arctic sea ice extent” 5) the temperature increases are very likely to be caused by anthropogenic (man made) greenhouse gasses, 6) Glaciers are retreating from global warming, 7) there will be more extremes in the weather and 8) there will be a dangerous rise in the sea level.
Much of what they say has a grain of truth to it. That gives it a level of plausibility for anyone who takes it at face value. There are many eminent scientists who have looked below the surface, and have, in fact been involved in the process. Many of those have gotten disgusted, and still others who continue to contribute, expect that they may be blackballed sometime in the future for telling the truth about what is going on.
Phd climate scientists, university professors, state climatologists, and respected researchers have written books and scientific papers about the shortfalls of the report and the distortion of the truth embedded in the process. Those individuals are being ignored and silenced by the people and organizations who make billions of dollars from the political money machine tied to hawking climate disaster.
The charts included in the presentation seem to be quite convincing. Everything was going along just fine until the industrial revolution. Then the temperature and CO2 concentrations jumped to unprecedented levels. The nice graphs tell the whole story. Well, almost the whole story. What they don’t tell you is that they are combining inconsistent data sets, excluding certain data that doesn’t fit the scenario and abusing the data that they do include.
Dr. Zbigniew Jawarowski, an atmospheric scientist, has collected ice cores and explored glaciers on six continents in his 50 year career. He states in a powerful and damning report that “the entire theory of man-made global warming… is based on ice core studies that provided a false picture of atmospheric CO2 levels.” According to his report, 90,000 direct measurements in the atmosphere, made by top scientists, including two Nobel prize winners, and reported in 175 technical papers, were arbitrarily rejected because they did not fit the story line. He regards this as “the greatest scientific scandal of our time.”
Most scientists, including those of the IPCC, recognize that most atmospheric CO2 is produced by natural processes. Actually, 97% of all of the carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere in a year comes from nature. Even if the human race ceased to exist, production of CO2 would maybe go down by 3%. The effect would be negligible.
Inconvenient truths that the IPCC has ignored: The southern hemisphere is not significantly warming, the south pole is actually getting colder; with the exception of limited melting due to natural changes in ocean currents, Antarctic ice is actually getting thicker; glaciers are advancing in the same geographic areas where others are retreating; weather phenomena have not gotten worse; the real expected rise in sea level is measurable in inches, not feet, and will probably continue as it has for centuries before industrialization.
Climate has always changed and will continue to change on a cyclical basis, related to a whole host of interacting phenomena. The contortion artists at IPCC have stretched the truth so much they may be the “Greatest Show On Earth”. P.T. Barnum would be proud.
